Patient Rights and Responsibilities

E Medical Center is committed to respectful, high-quality care for every patient. This document describes your rights as a patient and your responsibilities as a participant in your care.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

Respect and Dignity

Be treated with courtesy, dignity, and respect regardless of age, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or ability to pay.

Information

Receive complete, current, and understandable information about your diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis, including risks, benefits, and alternatives.

Participation

Participate in decisions about your care, including the right to accept or refuse treatment and to request a second opinion.

Privacy and Confidentiality

Expect that all communications and records relating to your care will be treated as confidential and to receive written notice of privacy practices.

Safety

Receive care in a safe setting and to be free from seclusion or restraints used as a means of coercion, discipline, convenience, or retaliation.

Communication

Have access to language assistance and auxiliary aids at no cost and to file a complaint or grievance without fear of retaliation.

Financial Information

Receive written information about hospital charges and to be informed about financial assistance policies and payment options.

Your Responsibilities

To help us provide you with safe, effective care, we ask that you:

  • Provide accurate and complete information about your health history, medications, allergies, and symptoms
  • Follow your care plan and communicate when you do not understand or cannot comply with instructions
  • Treat staff and other patients with respect and courtesy
  • Respect the rights and property of others
  • Meet your financial obligations or notify the hospital promptly if you need assistance
  • Comply with hospital rules and regulations designed to protect patient safety
  • Provide advance directives and designate a healthcare proxy if desired

Advance Directives

You have the right to make decisions about your medical treatment, including the right to accept or refuse treatment. Advance directives include living wills, healthcare proxies, and durable powers of attorney for healthcare. If you have an advance directive, please provide a copy to your care team and ask that it be placed in your medical record.

Grievance Process

If you have a concern or complaint about your care, we encourage you to speak with your care team or the unit supervisor. If your concern is not resolved, you may file a formal grievance with the Compliance Officer.

Policy Review and Compliance

This Patient Rights and Responsibilities policy is adopted as the official patient rights standard for E Medical Center and is effective as of August 2, 2025. The Compliance Officer shall review this policy periodically to ensure continued compliance with applicable federal and state patient rights regulations. Where this policy conflicts with applicable law, applicable law shall control.
