Cancer Screening Guidelines by Age
Reviewed by E Medical Center Oncology TeamLast updated March 2026
Regular screening finds cancer earlier, when it's often easier to treat. Recommendations vary by age, sex, and personal or family history, so this is a general starting point, not a substitute for a conversation with your doctor.
In your 20s and 30s, cervical cancer screening typically begins, alongside skin checks and self-awareness of any unusual changes.
Starting at 40 to 45, breast cancer screening (mammography) is generally recommended, followed by colorectal cancer screening starting around age 45.
Ask your primary care provider to build a personalized screening schedule based on your family history and risk factors.
